Tablet & Tableside Ordering

Tablet POS lets waiters take orders tableside — at the customer's table — using a tablet or phone instead of a fixed counter terminal. Orders go directly to the kitchen printer and the customer gets served faster.

How It Works

  1. The cashier or admin sets a device enrollment code on the dashboard
  2. Each waiter gets a 4-digit PIN for tablet login
  3. The cashier issues a digital float to each waiter at the start of their shift
  4. Waiters install the tablet app on their device, enter the code to connect
  5. Waiters log in with their PIN and start taking orders tableside

Orders flow immediately to the kitchen printer. The waiter collects payment from the customer and deposits it with the cashier digitally.

Setup

Step 1: Set the Device Code

The device code prevents unauthorized devices from connecting to your POS:

  1. Go to Settings > Business in the dashboard
  2. Find the Tablet POS section
  3. Click Generate Code or enter your own (e.g., MON-ABC123)
  4. Save

Share this code with your wait staff — they'll enter it once when setting up the tablet app.

TIP

The device code is like a supervisor PIN for enrolling devices. Set it once and share it securely with your team.

Step 2: Set Waiter PINs

Each waiter needs a PIN to log into the tablet:

  1. Go to People > Waiters
  2. Click a waiter's name, then Set PIN
  3. Enter a 4-6 digit PIN the waiter will remember
  4. Repeat for each waiter

Waiters can't take tablet orders without a PIN. See Adding Waiters for help creating waiter accounts.

Step 3: Install the Tablet App

Download the tablet app from get.moneta-pay.app:

  • Android — APK download
  • iOS — App Store link
  • macOS — Desktop tablet app

On first launch:

  1. Enter your server URL (your dashboard address — e.g., your-business.cloud.moneta-pay.app for cloud, or the server's IP for on-prem)
  2. Enter the device code from Step 1
  3. Tap Connect

Step 4: Log In as a Waiter

After connecting, the app shows the waiter list. Each waiter:

  1. Taps their name
  2. Enters their 4-6 digit PIN
  3. Is ready to take orders

Step 5: Issue Float

Before a waiter can take orders, the cashier must issue a digital float:

  1. The cashier goes to Finance > Waiter Float in the dashboard
  2. Clicks Issue Float
  3. Selects the waiter and enters the float amount (e.g., KES 5,000)
  4. Saves — the waiter can now take orders

The float amount is a virtual credit limit. The waiter's orders are deducted from it, and their cash deposits restore it. See Digital Float & Shift Settlement for the full workflow.

Troubleshooting

"Device code required" error:

  • The business doesn't have a device code set. Go to Settings > Business and set one.

"Invalid device code" error:

  • The code on the tablet doesn't match the one in the dashboard. Check both and re-enter.

Waiter can't log in:

  • Make sure a PIN is set for that waiter in the dashboard (People > Waiters > Set PIN)
  • Check the waiter is active (not deactivated)

"No float" error when placing order:

  • The cashier hasn't issued a float to this waiter yet. Go to Finance > Waiter Float > Issue Float.
